For our kids

Thanks to the amazing energy and contributions from parents and staff we raised $73,395 at the fair!  Our kids had a great day out and our community came together to host a wonderful event. The funds raised exceeded the target of $60,000.   The School Board will communicate how the funds will be spent in their next communication to the school community. In addition to stall successes, we wanted to share some good news about how we worked within the wider community for the fair.

For our community

Much appreciation to Kim Hustler for linking us up with Clendon Park School in South Auckland so that all good quality unsold clothes, books, homeware, toys, games and sports equipment were distributed to families within this decile one school.  The fair team made a decision early on that no goods would be discounted heavily or given away for free at the end of our fair when there are communities in need. This strategy worked – together the second hand goods stalls made more money this year and we had a lot of amazing goods left to donate. It took two big truckloads and two trailer loads to transport out to Clendon Park School on Sunday but it was well worth it.

From Sue Dawson, Principal of Clendon Park School: “A million thanks for what you have done for us and our school community.  Everyone came in either Sunday or Monday and by the end of Monday nothing was left at all!.  This meant a lot to our community and I just want to thank you again for such a lovely gesture to a community who really valued and appreciated your school's generosity.  We are cash poor but spirit rich!!  Please pass on this message on to the Principal, Board and community. Our galas raise a max of $2,000. Well done on raising such a massive amount of money for the school!! ”

Thanks to Brenda Dargaville and Milena Cooper and the clothing stall for linking up with Shirt On Your Back, an initiative to provide good quality dress shirts to people held in custody for jury trials or where the media will be present in Court. This is run by ex-parent of our school and Barrister Emma Priest.

Women’s Refuge were the recipients of a collection of brand new children’s stories by local author Maris O’Rourke.

Old clean linen that did not sell were donated to the charity SPCA– these will be used as Tug Toys for dogs and Rag Fairies for their animal villages.

For our environment
We exceeded our environmental goals for the fair. We are extremely proud of the Maungawhau School Community for supporting us in this direction. A huge thanks to the courageous Eco Warriors (students of our school) who spent their fair time manning the bins and helping us all learn where to put our rubbish on fair day. Without them we would never have reduced our landfill from 26 bins last year to only 4 this year.  You are all amazing!  Our future is in good hands! We hope to maintain this high standard going forward and for this to become embedded in the Maungawhau School culture. What a fantastic start we have all made together.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED TO OUR FAIR

Your support means so much, so thank you from all the students, parents and teachers of Maungawhau School.

WOW!  What a transformation our tennis courts have had.  From a run down old asphalt court that was rarely used, to this phenomenal looking structure and all sports surface that make this area feel double in size.  Thank you to everyone who supported this massive project.  The students and teachers are enjoying using this new space for PE lessons, assemblies, cultural events, play area during breaks under shade and for sports practices before and after school.

This area is also available for hire, so please contact the office for details on 09638 8829.
